"An innocent little murder" : the comedy of the Mitrovica Theater is staged in Gjirokastër
“An innocent little murder” the comedy by Jean Pierre Martinez, ascended to the stage of the Gjirokastër theater under the interpretation of the Mitrovica theater, directed by Marigona Bekteshi.
The performance, a clean comedy based on the complicated relationships of love, can also be seen as a humorous exploration of the power of language. Small but numerous lies that cause events with destructive consequences. The director of the show expressed great satisfaction with the reception of the performance.
The comedy, which had an interesting rhythm and dynamics, brought forth humorous situations within a couple where one’s lies reveal the secrets of the other. The work is simultaneously a tragic comedy – or a dramatic comedy that deals with the dangerous power of true and false statements to change reality, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. A small innocent joke pulls the characters of this drama uncontrollably, leading them from a quiet evening at home to a surreal and very dangerous situation.
The performance has previously traveled to Vlorë, and the troupe is expected to perform in several other cities. This was the second exchange between the theaters of Gjirokastër and Mitrovica.

"An innocent little murder" : The Mitrovica Theater troupe presents a performance in Gjirokastër
“The play ‘An innocent little murder’ brought the Mitrovica theater troupe to the city. Jean Pierre Martinez’s comedy took the stage at the Gjirokastër Theater under the direction of Marigona Bekteshi.
“Kosovo and Albania are now uniting through art, and where better than art to penetrate where others may have difficulty. Gjirokastër is our second home. I was fortunate to be here five years ago at the theater festival with a show from Vlora,” said director Marigona Bekteshi.
The acting performance conveyed humorous situations within a couple where one’s lies reveal the secrets of the other. A dramatic comedy that draws attention to the consequences of distorting reality.
“We felt very good being in Gjirokastër tonight. Last night, we were in Vlorë, and of course, this is a very good personal feeling, I can say the same for the Mitrovica theater because it is a good opportunity for all the work we do in the theater to be seen by all Albanian regions,” said actor Fisnik Ademi.
“The audience has been very good, reacted very well. I am very happy to be here tonight, but I hope we will have an exchange of performances, with the Gjirokastër theater bringing shows to Kosovo, and we coming here,” expressed actress Irena Aliu.
The planned activities for the year 2024 aim to extend this collaboration not only in the theater but also in other events such as traditional fairs, folklore concerts, or various exhibitions.”

The Mitrovica Theater presented a performance in Gjirokastër, warmly welcomed by the audience.
“The Mitrovica Theater troupe performed the comedy ‘A Small Accidental Murder’ in Gjirokastër, warmly embraced by the audience. This is the second time this group of actors has performed on the artistic stage of the city. The activity was organized as part of the Independence Day celebration week in Kosovo, and the organizers appreciated the growing cultural cooperation between Gjirokastër and Kosovo.
FLAMUR GOLEMI, MAYOR OF THE MUNICIPALITY
“There is no distance that separates Albanians. Mitrovica, as the northernmost corner of Kosovo, and Gjirokastër, as the southernmost corner of Albania, were united today. Thank you very much for the performance, and we look forward to your next one.”
MARIGONA BEKTASHI, DIRECTOR
“We found a very warm welcome from the entrance. We enjoyed the show a lot. Of course, above all, when two places like Kosovo and Albania are already uniting through art, and where better than art to penetrate where others may have difficulty, Gjirokastër is our second home. I was fortunate to be here five years ago at the theater festival with a show from Vlora. This is my second time, and I truly feel at home.”
SABIT SHEREBETI, DIRECTOR OF THE MITROVICA THEATER
“For the Mitrovica theater, this is the second time we come as guests to the Gjirokastër theater. It has been a special welcome for us. We will continue with cooperation in the future, so I thank you for the hospitality, for the collaboration that will continue further.”
Some of the Kosovo actors who performed for the first time in Gjirokastër appreciated the warm reception from the audience.
FISNIK ADEMI, ACTOR
“We felt very good being in Gjirokastër tonight. Last night, we were in Vlorë, and of course, this is a very good personal feeling. I can say the same for the Mitrovica theater because it is a good opportunity for all the work we do in the theater to be seen by all Albanian regions. It’s a pleasure. It’s the first time I perform something like this in Gjirokastër, and thank you very much to the audience because it was truly warm. They welcomed us very well, and of course, I felt very good.”
IRENA ALIU, ACTRESS
“It’s the first time I’m in Gjirokastër with a performance. First, I want to praise your theater. It’s very cozy, unfortunately, in Kosovo not many theaters have such a good and warm environment. The audience has been very good, reacted very well. I am very happy to be here tonight, but I hope we will have an exchange of performances, with the Gjirokastër theater bringing shows to Kosovo, and we coming here.”
Gjirokastër has now become an international stage for art and culture, and during the past year, several cultural events were held where participants were artists from Kosovo and other Albanian territories. The planned activities for the year 2024 aim to extend this collaboration not only in the theater but also in other events such as traditional fairs, folklore concerts, various exhibitions, etc.”
